The Purple Dahlia of Calabash—Tropical, Casual, Fun “for women who want to lead the conga line” After surviving five years of multiple life explosions, and needing to work for a living, I thought it would be fulfilling, fun, and hopefully profitable, to open a business targeting and bringing together women walking through similar experiences. Most women find shopping to be a very satisfying activity—sometimes we shop for that perfect accessory to match a special ensemble and sometimes we just go shopping to have fun. With these thoughts in mind, The Purple Dahlia was born.
Now, after four years in business, the Purple Dahlia is a well-established ladies boutique, offering fun and fabulous apparel, but more than that, it’s a place women can meet, share their stories, laugh together, encourage each other, get a hug . . . or maybe a pair of sparkly summer sandals.
As a breast cancer survivor, I believe we need to encourage each other to get annual mammograms (it saved my life!), learn how to perform self-checks and support breast cancer research. The Purple Dahlia has partnered with “Save the TaTas” to offer a line of fun tees and visors to directly fund breast cancer research and education. These items will be available for purchase on this site. “Imagine a World Without Cancer . . . Save the TaTas.”
Many people ask how The Purple Dahlia got its name. Simply, at that time, my favo
rite color was purple, very regal, of course. My grandmother, a strong-no-nonsense type woman, had a passion for dinner-plate dahlias—she had a garden full of them, and was noted in the community for her extraordinarily huge colorful dahlias. So the store name is dedicated to all the strong women who came before us—and, oh, they loved to wear the latest fashions—especially the hats!! So, ladies and friends—thanks for your business, kindness and friendship! And remember to be thankful for life’s little explosions, they lead to freedom, self-awareness, and courage.
